Host: Jared A. Ball is a Professor of Communications and Africana Studies at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland and author of The Myth and Propaganda of Black Buying Power (Palgrave, 2020). Ball is also host of the podcast "iMiXWHATiLiKE!", co-founder of Black Power Media , and his decades of journalism, media, writing, and political work can be found at imixwhatilike.org . Description: In this session, Dr. Ball will cover a summary of internal colonialism theory as context for emancipatory journalism. He will define and exemplify emancipatory journalism, and he will discuss the rise and current state of the media/journalism environment in the so-called US.
